I have taken on various leadership roles within the broader academy to serve the wider academic community.

**Service to the Society of Biblical Literature**

For the Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting, I serve as co-chair of the Pentateuch program unit and a steering committee member of the Biblical Law program unit.

**Editorial Boards and Peer Review**

I am the book review editor of the journal *Vetus Testamentum,* as well as a member of the editorial board of the *Journal of Hebrew Scriptures.* I am a regular peer-reviewer of manuscripts submitted to various journals and book series ([see the full list in my CV](https://juliarhyder.scholars.harvard.edu/sites/g/files/omnuum4711/files/2026-07/CV%20Rhyder%20July%202026%20Online.pdf))

**Academic Memberships**

I serve as an active member of several academic societies, including the European Association of Biblical Studies, the American Society of Overseas Research, and the Society of Biblical Literature

**Advisory Roles**

From 2021–2024, I served as an external advisor of the Swiss National Science Foundation project “Transforming Memories of Collective Violence in the Hebrew Bible” led by Sonja Ammann of the University of Basel
